Recently, reporters learned from a press conference held by the Shandong Provincial Government that by the end of 2020, Shandong's high-speed railway mileage will reach 2,110 kilometers, and 12 of the province's 16 prefecture-level cities have access to high-speed railways. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shandong will place the construction of an internal and external railway network in an important position, ending the history of Dongying, Liaocheng, Heze, and Binzhou, which have no high-speed railways, and realizing "high-speed railways in all cities". By 2025, Shandong's high-speed railway mileage will reach more than 4,400 kilometers, with more than 10 inter-provincial exits.

Jiang Cheng, director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Transportation, said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shandong transportation will achieve "four highlights" in terms of highlighting the development positioning of being in the forefront, highlighting the development direction of interconnection and connectivity, highlighting the development method of kinetic energy conversion, and highlighting the development goal of satisfying the people. It will strive to achieve "four breakthroughs" in infrastructure, transportation services, smart transportation, and industry governance.

In terms of highways, Shandong will accelerate the implementation of expressway densification, speed increase, and channel expansion; implement the "Four Good Rural Roads" promotion action, and innovate the maintenance and operation mechanism. By 2025, the province's expressway mileage will exceed 10,000 kilometers, with more than 30 inter-provincial exits, and basically realize that counties (districts, cities) have more than two expressways, and about 2,500 kilometers of ordinary national and provincial roads will be newly rebuilt.

In terms of ports and shipping, Shandong will speed up the completion of the main channel of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from Level 3 to Level 2, the Xiaoqing River restoration of navigation, the Daqing River channel and other inland waterway transport projects. By 2025, Shandong's world-class ocean port construction will have made significant progress, with more than 360 berths of 10,000 tons and above in the province's coastal ports.

In terms of airports, Shandong will accelerate the implementation of three expansion and reconstruction projects, namely the second phase of Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport, the second phase of Yantai Penglai International Airport, and the terminal of Linyi Airport, relocate the three airports in Weifang, Weihai, and Jining, and build two new airports in Zaozhuang and Liaocheng. By 2025, the total number of transport airports in the province will reach 12, and the total number of general airports will reach 30. Shandong will also accelerate the promotion of "new infrastructure" such as smart highways, smart ports, intercity high-speed railways and rail transit, and accelerate the construction of urban rail transit in Jinan and Qingdao. By 2025, the mileage of urban rail transit in the province will reach 600 kilometers.
